Called Takbir in Arabic, the phrase, “Allahu Akbar”, has a far deeper meaning than its simple translation. A Muslim utters these words numerous times throughout his day—in prayer, in praise and as supplication. “Allahu Akbar” is the first spoken phrase of the call to prayer, the Adhan, which is heard 5 times daily throughout the world wherever there are Muslims. To declare Allahu Akbar is to celebrate the Oneness of God.
